This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was purchased out of Washington State in 1967 by the current owner’s late spouse, reportedly from the original owner. The car is finished in Dark British Racing Green over a black interior, and power is provided by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include a black soft top, a luggage rack, dual SU carburetors, front disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a heater, and a Sony head unit. This BJ8 is offered on behalf of the current owner in Minnesota with spare exhaust components, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Wisconsin title in the owner’s name.
The body is finished in Dark British Racing Green with a black soft top, and features include a bullet-style mirror, chrome bumpers with overriders, and a chrome rear luggage rack. The seller notes a rear panel was repainted, and paint blemishes and touch-ups are visible.
Chromed 15” wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 165-width Michelin XZX tires. A matching spare mounted with a Dunlop tire is stored in the trunk, and braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features front bucket seats and rear cushions upholstered in black upholstery with perforated inserts, which are accompanied by color-coordinated treatments for the dashboard and door panels. A Sony stereo is housed in the center stack, and additional features include a three-spoke steering wheel, a heater, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and lap belts for the front occupants.
Smiths instrumentation housed within a wood fascia consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles, approximately 50k of which have been added during current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was rated at 150 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Per the seller, the car was last serviced in the fall of 2021 in preparation for winter storage.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was dispatched to the United States on November 22, 1966, and lists the serial numbers, colors, and equipment along with the build date and destination.
