Lot #253850

This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller as a non-running project in 2026, and work in preparation for the sale involved replacing the points and condenser. It is equipped with a 2.9-liter inline-six, which is linked a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and the car is finished in green over black upholstery. It rolls on 15″ knock-off wire wheels and is further equipped with front disc brakes, a beige soft top, a hood scoop, and front bucket seats. This 3000 Mk III is currently a running project and is now offered at no reserve with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

Finished in green, the car is equipped with a replacement folding beige soft top, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. There are dents on the rear bumper and left quarter panel, and rust is noted on the right front fender.

The car rolls on knock-off 15″ wire wheels and has front disc and rear drum brakes.

The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black upholstery, and the floors are lined with black carpets. The center console is missing. The seller reports rust in the passenger footwell and on the floors.

The banjo-style steering wheel shows wear and sits ahead of Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory. The seller reports that the points and condenser were replaced in preparation for the sale and that fuel was fed directly to the carburetors to get the engine running. The condition of the inside of the fuel tank is unknown.

The engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and an overdrive unit was factory-optioned.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists production information and identification numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
