This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was retained by its original owner in Ohio and Pennsylvania for decades before it was purchased by the current owner in 2024 from a dealer that offered the car on behalf of its original owner. The vehicle was stored in 1970 with about 52k miles on its odometer, and another 4k miles had been added by 2003. Work was performed to the fuel and electrical systems, the valvetrain, the brakes, and the clutch in the mid-2000s, the interior was refreshed in 2011, and rust repairs were performed in 2017. Finished in British Racing Green over black vinyl, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, whitewall tires, front disc brakes, driving lights, a tonneau cover, a wood dashboard, a Blaupunkt radio, dual SU carburetors, and PerTronix electronic ignition. The spark plugs and battery were replaced in 2024, and in early 2025 the steering and suspension were serviced and the front wheel bearings and the valve-cover gasket were replaced. This BJ8 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, service records dating back to 1967, manufacturer’s literature, spare parts, a car cover, and Connecticut registration.
The car is finished in British Racing Green and features a black tonneau cover, Lucas halogen driving lights, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The folding black soft top was replaced in 2011. In 2017, rust was repaired on the passenger-side door, and other bodywork was performed to the vehicle’s right side and to the hood before the car was partially repainted.
Silver-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165-series BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial whitewall tires that were replaced in 2016. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. Worn steering and suspension bushings and linkages were replaced in early 2025 along with the front wheel bearings.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered in black vinyl in 2011, at which time the seat foam, carpeting, and door seals also were replaced. Interior appointments include wood dashboard trim, a Blaupunkt AM/SW/FM radio, an aftermarket speaker, front lap belts, a cabin heater, and a locking glovebox.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership. The tachometer was rebuilt in 2014, and the speedometer was rebuilt in 2016.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. PerTronix electronic ignition and an Intermotor coil are fitted. The wiring harness was replaced in 2013. The spark plugs, battery, and tensioned belt were replaced and the oil was changed in March 2024. The valve-cover gasket was replaced in January 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced in 2016. Corrosion is noted on underbody components.
A collection of literature and service records dating back to 1967 will accompany the vehicle.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows factory equipment and indicates that the car was completed on February 7, 1967, in left-hand-drive North American specification and was dispatched to the United States on March 16, 1967.
The vehicle is being sold on its Connecticut registration, which serves as the ownership document in Connecticut.
