This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was first delivered to Mobile, Alabama, and is said to have undergone refurbishment in 1997, and it was acquired by the seller’s late father in 2014. The car is finished in metallic blue over blue vinyl upholstery and powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional equipment includes a black soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, chrome bumpers, Smiths instrumentation, and a heater. This BJ8 Mk III is now offered by the seller on behalf of their mother with a top boot, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Maryland title.
The car was finished from the factory in Healey Blue and is said to have been repainted during the aforementioned 1990s refurbishment. Exterior equipment includes a black soft top, a top boot, a left mirror, quarter vent windows, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels wear two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A full-size spare is stored in the trunk, and braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features low-back bucket seats and rear cushions reupholstered in blue vinyl with silver piping, joined by color-coordinated door panels and walnut veneer accents on the dashboard. Additional amenities include a locking glovebox, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, Austin Healey-branded floor mats, lap belts, and a heater.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits atop an adjustable column and frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges, as well as an aftermarket analog clock. The speedometer cable and oil pressure gauge were replaced under current ownership, and the five-digit mechanical odometer shows 50k miles, though total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox with an electronically actuated overdrive unit.
The British Motor Industry Heritage certificate indicates that the car was dispatched to the United States in March 1967 and lists the serial numbers, factory colors, and equipment, along with the build date and destination.
