Lot #193726
This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and it has been repainted in light blue with a black soft top. The cabin is outfitted with Red Ambla vinyl upholstery, 2+2 seating, wood veneer trim, and a banjo-style steering wheel, and the car rides on chrome wire-spoke wheels that are mounted over front disc and rear drum brakes. Additional equipment includes a hood scoop, a luggage rack, a Talbot Berlin-style mirror, a push-button radio, and a cabin heater. This 3000 Mk III was acquired by the current owner in 2023 and is now offered on dealer consignment in Massachusetts with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate and a New Hampshire title.
The car has been refinished in light blue and features a folding black soft top that does not have a rear window. Further details include a hood scoop, a Talbot Berlin-style side mirror, a luggage rack, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Corrosion is noted where paint has chipped away near the driver’s door.
Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels were installed in 2023, and they are mounted with Michelin XAS tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The selling dealer tells us the sway bar bushings were replaced and the brake system was overhauled with a replacement master cylinder, calipers, pads, and rotors under current ownership.
The 2+2 cabin is trimmed in Red Ambla vinyl, and wood veneer trim accents the dashboard. Interior appointments include front bucket seats, a push-button radio, a cabin heater, a locking glovebox, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 30k miles, a few hundred miles of which were added under current ownership. The seller states the mileage is not accurate, and total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. Service between November 2023 and January 2025 included cleaning the carburetors, performing an oil change, and replacing the heater hoses, thermostat, front engine cover, generator drive belt, and gaskets for the engine side cover, oil pan, and timing cover.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows factory equipment and indicates that the car was dispatched in left-hand-drive North American specification on July 20, 1967, to Amec in the USA.
The New Hampshire title carries an “Antique Vehicle” brand.

Seller's description:
Final-Year Example: 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III Convertible
Asking Price
$33,600
This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. III Convertible is described by the seller as a capable driver with $20,000 in mechanical service work completed over the past 2-3 years, including a refurbished brake system, new wire wheels and tires, plus general engine work detailed below. An older repaint changed the color from Metallic Golden Beige to light blue. The seller says the paint is intact but has numerous minor chips and scratches, some of which are visible in the photos. The finish also shows orange peel. The interior’s condition, as seen in photos, suggests previous restoration work. The seller believes the engine is original, and the peeling paint on the valve cover appears so. Bidders can ask to see a photo of its number to verify it with the included British Motoring Heritage Trust certificate. That document does verify the chassis/body number. The British sports car is equipped with the optional Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive, which is confirmed as correct by the certificate.
The car came equipped with the desirable overdrive option, which is said to work.
The seller indicates numerous mechanical services between November 2023 and January 2025.
Those included cleaning the carburetors and changing the oil.
Parts replaced included the front engine cover, generator drive belt, and all gaskets.
New heater hoses and a new thermostat were also installed.
The rear mufflers and tailpipes are recent stainless-steel replacements.
New chromed-center knock-off wire-spoke wheels went on in 2023, per the seller.
The 180HR15 Michelin XAS tires show 2022 date codes.
The brake system was recently overhauled under previous ownership.
That job replaced the master cylinder, front rotors and calipers, and all pads and rear shoes.
The Red Ambla vinyl interior was likely replaced and appears to have no damage.
The correct “banjo” steering wheel is in the car.
The chrome luggage rack was a common in-period accessory.
The Talbot Berlin-style side mirror was also a popular in-period add-on.
A pushbutton AM/FM radio is installed in the dash.
A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate comes with the Austin-Healey.
NEEDS
This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. III has no known mechanical issues, per the seller.
The black convertible top is missing its plastic rear window.
The seller notes an old, small paint lift with rust behind driver’s door.
A 4-inch scratch on the passenger's door was touched up with an incorrect blue.
The seller also notes minor dings on the passenger's door.
Several large scratches are evident on the burled-walnut glovebox door.
The trunk mat should be replaced.
The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean New Hampshire title in his name. Presented as a driver-condition car, this 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. III Convertible is from the last year of this significant six-cylinder British sports car. A full recent brake system overhaul, newer tires, and several engine services help make the car ready for more driving.
