This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller out of Kansas in 1999 and refurbished between 2002 and 2003. The car is finished in two-tone black and red with a black soft top over red upholstery, and power comes from a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Features include Lucas Flamethrower driving lights, rear bumperettes, a PerTronix electronic ignition, an electric cooling fan, and a 50-amp circuit breaker. This BJ8 is now offered with the removed bumpers, four Minator wheels with Pirelli tires, spare parts, a tonneau cover, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment photos, a history document compiled by the seller, and a clean Oklahoma title in the seller’s name.
Delivered from the factory in Dark British Racing Green, the car received bodywork and a repaint in its current black and red in 2003, reportedly by Don’s Collision Repair of Oklahoma City. Features include rear chrome bumperettes, a chrome-finished grille and trim, and Lucas Flamethrower driving lights. The black Robbins soft top is said to have been installed in 2012 and features a zip-down plastic rear window.
The 72-spoke, 15″ Dayton painted wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are mounted with Michelin MX4 tires that were installed circa 2000. Four Minator wheels with Pirelli tires that were installed in 2018. A new brake master cylinder and booster were reportedly installed in 2018.
The 2+2 cockpit features low-back bucket seats and a rear bench that were retrimmed in red leather using a Heritage Upholstery kit in 2003. Insulation was fitted before matching door panels and Wilton wool carpets were installed. Equipment includes burl wood dash panels, a heater, and blue lap belts.
The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Switches for the windshield washers, fuel pump, and electric fan are mounted to the left of the steering column. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles, 20k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 150 horsepower. A PerTronix electronic ignition is fitted, and an April 2010 service performed by Glass Auto Works of Oklahoma City reportedly included the installation of a Denis Welch Motorsport camshaft, a timing chain, water pump, and new valves, springs, tappets, lifters, and engine mounts. The cylinder head was machined at that time, and the radiator was re-cored. An oil and filter change was last performed in June 2020.
Engine stamping 29K–RU/H16469 matches the engine number listed on the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. New clutch cylinders were fitted in 2010, and work in 2012 included installing Facet electric main and auxiliary fuel pumps, a new cloth-covered wiring harness, and a 50-amp circuit breaker.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was built on June 14 and 15, 1967, and shipped to Saint Louis, Missouri. Factory colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers are also listed. A history of the car compiled by the seller is also included.
