This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was completed in August 1967 and delivered new to the US, where it was sold new in February 1968 through Reedman Automobiles of Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Chassis 42064 subsequently spent time with owners in Maryland and New Jersey before undergoing a refurbishment in 1998 and 1999 at Showroom Restorations of Lititz, Pennsylvania, that involved a repaint, an interior re-trim in red leather, and overhauls of the powertrain, suspension, and brakes. Finished in ivory white, the car wears a black soft top and features front disc brakes along with 15″ knock-off wire wheels. Inside, the 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in red leather along with a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a heater. Power is supplied by a 2.9-liter inline-six equipped with dual SU carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission linked with a Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive unit. This 3000 Mk III was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024 and is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, an owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, tools a car cover, and a Pennsylvania title.
The car left the factory finished in Ivory White (WT3) and was repainted as part of the aforementioned late 1990s refurbishment. It wears a replacement folding black soft top accompanied by a matching a top boot and tonneau cover. Further details include a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders as well as a grille badge that indicates it was awarded the National First Prize by the Antique Automobile Club of America in 2000
The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The suspension and brakes were overhauled as part of the 1990s refurbishment.
The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats that were re-trimmed in red leather. Interior appointments include a cabin heater, a locking glovebox, and wood trim along with bucket seats for all four occupants.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 36k miles, approximately 30 of which have been added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six featured dual SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 150 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque. The engine was reportedly overhauled. Work in preparation for the sale included adjusting the carburetors and changing the oil as well as replacing the battery and fuel tank.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The transmission and differential were overhauled as part of the aforementioned late 1990s refurbishment.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows factory equipment and indicates that the car was dispatched on November 24, 1967, in left-hand-drive North American specification to the USA. Certificates from the Austin-Healey Concours Registry and Antique Automobile Club of America are also included in the sale along with service records, accessories, workshop manuals, and manufacturer’s literature.
