This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the seller in 1981 and it has spent time in Oregon and Washington State. It is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and is finished in green over black vinyl upholstery. The car is equipped with a black soft top and boot cover, dual SU carburetors, 15″ 72-spoke knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, fender-mounted mirrors, chrome bumpers and trim, a luggage rack, Smiths instrumentation, and a British Leyland push-button AM radio. This BJ8 Mk III is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, partial service records, parts catalogs, a tonneau cover, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.
The car was finished from the factory in British Racing Green and was repainted in 1993 by Armory Autoworks in Portland, Oregon. The black convertible soft top was replaced in 2020, while the boot cover and convertible top rubber seals were replaced in 2023. Additional exterior details include a hood scoop, Sylvania headlights, chrome bumpers and trim, fender-mounted mirrors, a luggage rack, and twin exhaust outlets. There is a paint chip on the right front fender and a dent on the grille shroud. A replacement grille shroud is included in the sale. The photos in the listing were taken in July and August 2023.
Silver-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels were mounted in September 2020 and wrapped in 165-series Yokohama S-701 All Season tires that have 2019 date codes. A spare is located in the trunk, and braking is provided by front discs and rear drums. An aftermarket brake booster and stainless-steel brake hoses were installed in 2011.
The seats are trimmed in black vinyl with perforated inserts and contrasting piping and are joined by with color-coordinated door panels and replacement carpeting. Burl wood veneer accents the dashboard, and appointments include a heater, a wooden shift knob, Austin-Healey-branded floor mats, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a British Leyland push-button AM radio. Cracks in the finish on the left side of the dash are noted.
The banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles, approximately 20k of which have been added under current ownership.
The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and Lucas ignition components. The wiring harness was replaced in 2010.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electronically actuated overdrive unit. The overdrive servo unit was replaced in 2011, and the fuel tank, pump, and sending unit were replaced in 2020.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate lists colors, factory equipment, and a dispatch date of August 11, 1967. Partial service records are also included in the sale in addition to a car cover, a tonneau cover, spare parts, and miscellaneous parts catalogs.
