This 1968 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III roadster is finished in Healey Blue with a navy blue top over blue vinyl, and power comes from a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car was reportedly first sold in Toronto, Canada in April 1968, and is said to have remained with its original owner through 2002. The seller acquired the car in 2013, and subsequently refinished the exterior in its factory color, rebuilt the engine, powder coated the wheels, and overhauled the suspension and braking systems. This Austin-Healey is now offered with records from the seller’s ownership and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The seller states that the body was stripped and refinished in its factory Healey Blue in 2015. Equipment includes a navy blue soft top, a black boot cover, chrome trim, fender mirrors, and bumpers with overriders. The seller reports that a chip is present in the finish.
The 15″ wire wheels were powder-coated silver in 2013 and are mounted with 205/70 Arizonian Silver Edition III tires. Services in 2013 are said to include replacement of the front king pins, tie rod assemblies, sway bar, rear leaf springs, spring hardware, and rear suspension lower link and radius arm. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, and the seller states that the master cylinder was replaced and the system was flushed in 2019, and the right-rear brake was adjusted in 2020.
The seats are trimmed in perforated dark blue vinyl with a matching dashboard top, door panels, and carpets. The seller replaced the glovebox and burl wood dashboard veneers in 2013, and also replaced the wiring harness and seat runners at that time. Lap belts are installed for both occupants.
The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with 5,700-rpm redline, along with auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. Under 78k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 3k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six was rebuilt in 2017, which included replacement connecting rods, pistons, bearings, freeze plugs, and gaskets. Other work performed during the seller’s ownership included replacement of the fuel sending unit and fuel level float and well as rebuilding the carburetors in 2014, and the carburetors were adjusted in 2020 and the cooling system was flushed. The seller notes an oil leak at the rear main seal.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The seller notes that the car was undercoated at the time of his purchase. Records from the seller’s ownership are included in the sale.
