This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was originally delivered to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and it was refurbished in California beginning about 15 years ago in its current metallic light blue with ivory coves and a blue soft top over a blue leather interior. The current owner acquired the car in 2015 following completion of the refurbishment. Power comes from a 2.9-liter straight-six equipped with dual SU carburetors and mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Features include chrome wire wheels, a period AM radio, and a blue tonneau cover. This BJ8 is now offered on dealership consignment at no reserve with receipts from 1986 through the early 2000s, refurbishment photos, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The body was refinished from its original solid blue to metallic light blue with ivory coves under previous ownership. Brightwork includes front and rear bumpers with overriders, as well as rearview mirrors mounted to the front fenders and trim around the passenger compartment. The selling dealer notes hazing on the chrome trim.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels with octagonal center nuts wear period-style tires, and the car is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes. A painted wire spare wheel is located in the trunk. The replacement blue soft top is further shown, and a matching tonneau cover includes a section that can cover the passenger’s seat.

The blue interior features leather-upholstered front bucket and individual rear seats with gray piping. Matching carpets as well as lap belts are fitted. Wear is noted on the carpets and on the center console piping.

A banjo-style steering wheel mounted on an adjustable column rests in front of a woodgrain dashboard replaced in the 1990s. The dash houses controls for the optional heater as well as a period British Motor Corporation AM radio. Smiths instrumentation includes a five-digit odometer that reads just under 27k miles. Actual mileage is unknown.

The 2,912cc C-series inline-six features dual SU carburetors with pancake filters. The selling dealer notes that the carburetors could benefit from tuning and reports recent engine-compression readings between 150 and 165 psi in all cylinders. A four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive routes power to the rear wheels.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates a build date in September 1967 along with factory options and serial numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
