This 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 is a left-hand-drive Mk I BN7 roadster that was produced in July 1960 and acquired by the seller in 2018. Finished in white over red leather upholstery, the car is powered by a replacement 2,912cc inline-six equipped with three carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional equipment includes a louvered hood, driving lights, front disc brakes, a tan soft top, removable side curtains, a heater, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. Service under current ownership is said to have included an ignition tune-up, cleaning the fuel bowls, and replacing the battery. This Healey 3000 is offered in Castle Rock, Colorado with a factory-style steering wheel, a jack and tool kit, a BMIHT certificate, service records, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.
Finished from the factory in Ivory White, the car is said to have been repainted during prior ownership. Features include a louvered hood, driving lights, chrome bumpers with overriders, fender-mounted side mirrors, an Austin Healey 3000 MKII front badge, and removable sliding side windows. Photos in the gallery below show a hole in the tan soft top along with worn areas of chrome trim, paint chips, scratches, and cracked paint.
Gray-painted 15″ wire wheels with two-eared knock-offs are wrapped in 165R15 Vredestein Sprint+ S80 tires showing pre-2000 production codes. The front brake calipers were rebuilt and the pads and hoses were previously replaced along with the tie rods.
The interior was reupholstered in 2015 and features seats trimmed in red leather along with a matching dashboard, door panels, center armrest, and carpets. Amenities include a heater, an adjustable steering column, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, and lap belts.
A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The speedometer was rebuilt during prior ownership, along with the gauges for oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 100 of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.
The 2,912cc inline-six was reportedly sourced from a 3000 MkII, installed prior to 1985, and rebuilt in 2008. The engine is equipped with triple carburetors and a polished Austin Healey-script valve cover. An ignition tune-up was performed, the fuel bowls were cleaned, and the battery was replaced during current ownership. The carburetors and generator were rebuilt and the timing cover was resealed previously.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The clutch hose was replaced and the throwout bearing was adjusted during prior ownership.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows the original colors and options as well as a build date in July 1960.
Sold for $56,000 on 6/1/22
