Featuring a complete frame-off, nut & bolt restoration, this 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 was comprehensively redone by long-time enthusiast and artist Gene Tipsword. During the restoration the engine received a MK III BJ8 camshaft and larger 2" SU carburetors to increase the horsepower from the stock figure of 118 to 150. Likewise, the brakes were upgraded to the larger BJ8 discs with a power booster. Handling was likewise improved using a larger 7/8" swaybar with hard bushings up front. Riding on Dayton 72 spoke wires with knockoff hubs all around that are wrapped in fresh rubber, the car offers many refinements inside and out. The interior features leather seats withan extra set upholstered in ultrasuede for those days where it is too hot for leather over Wilton wool carpets. The top is an English Everflex with a matching tonneau cover while in the boot, tools that include a knockoff hammer as well as a fitted car cover are included.
For entertainment, a custom radio enclosure with a storage shelf has been fitted with the radio powered by a custom power converter allowing it to work with the positive ground system. The speakers are out of view behind the seats. The antenna is custom fitted and folds down behind the rear bumper where it can be stowed mostly out of sight. The custom-fitted side mirrors utilize the existing front mounting holes for the side curtains. The mirrors do have to be removed to install the side curtains; however, that has never occurred with the current owner. Additionally, the exhaust system has been custom fitted to increase ground clearance and impact shields are fitted the ends of the muffler for added protection. All chrome and rubber seals were fitted new when it was restored.
This vehicle has been driven less than 2,000 miles since the restoration work was completed. When not in use, the vehicle is stored in a climate-controlled facility, taken out once a month to keep it exercised.
