Auction description:
Originally supplied to the home market and complete with correct the Heritage Certificate, this extremely fine specimen of Austin Healey's Big Healey was specified to include a heater, overdrive, disc brakes and an adjustable steering column. It has had just three owners recorded from new, the first of whom kept the car right up until 2002. He restored it back in the late 1990s/early 2000s but decided to sell it, with 90% of the work completed, to the second owner in March 2002. Mr Francois Cherrier then picked up the baton, completed the restoration and sold it to the vendor, Mrs Julia Howorth. Old MoT test certificates dating back to 2002 accompany the car as well as a current one valid to April 2008. Additional refinements include wire wheels, a tonneau cover and a soft top, while a file of invoices detail what is a sound and well presented Austin Healey.

Car was featured in Classic and Sport Car magazine, July 2008 issue. I imported the car to the US that same month. Said to be in Walton on Thames, Surrey at or near that time.

I bought the car in that shape on May 2008 with about 4500 miles on the restored engine from Oakfields in Hampshire, UK. A month and a half later we moved to Riverside, CT in the US where the car now sits well preserved. I have visited the Black Horse Garage in Bridgeport, CT for a full paint job as it may be what it calls after next year's use. It now is on a Carcoon with airflow in storage but I drive it every sunny day that I can. Now with the soft top on. Separately, I managed to find an original BT7 hard top that I plan on restoring.
For the record, I have driven it about a thousand miles now and it's absolutely exhilarating. Need someone to look at the tri-carbs and fine tune.

Took the car to the www.tourbritannia.com in 2010 and will do so for 2011 as well. Had an absolute blast and there are plenty of pics on the web if searching for the tour and name. Had engine, gearbox, suspension and steering completely redone from scratch by www.orchardrestorations.co.uk. Brilliant! Highly recommended, both dad and son, Kevin and Nick Law. Anyways, getting into the classic rally/regularity spirit. Cheers! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 is a right-hand drive four-seat roadster that was built in October 1961 and imported from the UK by the seller in May 2017. The car has been refinished in two-tone red and ivory over beige leather, and power comes from a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes a beige soft top, 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, and a chrome luggage rack. This BT7 is offered with side screens, a red tonneau cover, import documents, service records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Healey Blue, the car was repainted in two-tone red and ivory under previous ownership. Features include a beige convertible top with side screens, a red tonneau cover, fender-mounted side mirrors, and a chrome luggage rack.
Silver 15″ wire wheels feature two-eared chrome knock-off hubs and wear 165-series Firestone F-560 tires, and a matching spare is mounted in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, which have been painted red. A brake system service was performed in May 2021.
The interior has been reupholstered in beige leather and features front buckets and individual rear seats along with a matching dash, door panels, and black carpeting. Amenities include a heater, added lap belts, a dash-mounted mirror, all-weather floor mats, and a fire extinguisher. Wear is visible on the front seat upholstery.
A three spoke wood steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges measuring oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller.
The 2.9-liter inline-six was reportedly overhauled in 2006 and is fed via three SU carburetors.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists a build date of October 18, 1961, factory colors and equipment, and delivery to Lookers Limited of Manchester, England. A driver’s handbook and import documents are also included in the sale.
