Additional information from above auction:
Lot 156
Scottsdale 2015
1961 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I BT7

According to its BMHT Certificate, this BT7 was produced at the end of 1960 as a left-hand-drive export model. As one of the most popular and desirable "Big Healeys," it was factory-equipped with an adjustable steering column, heater, laminated windscreen, overdrive, and Roadspeed tires.

Following acquisition in 2012, the consignor, a respected British car judge for over 35 years and accomplished restorer, commissioned a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration, seeking to retain as many of the 3000's original parts as possible. Body and paintwork were completed by German Motors of Sacramento, and Heritage Upholstery & Trim of North Vancouver supplied the new dark blue leather upholstery with smart cream piping. AJAG, the British car specialist in Carmichael, California, rebuilt the engine, gearbox, and drivetrain, new brake lines were installed, the instruments were rebuilt, and a new wiring harness was fitted. Carefully restored side curtains, a new dark blue convertible top, renewed brightwork, and restored chrome wire wheels provide the final touches to the highly detailed restoration. With only limited test mileage since the work was completed in September 2014, this striking 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I BT7 remains fresh and has yet to grace the show field. As such, it provides an exceptional opportunity for the new owner to present to the Austin-Healey community in concours competition.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
