This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BT7 was restored over a seven year period by its previous owner, an avid British car enthusiast who completed the work in 1999. Refinished in Colorado Red over a black interior with red piping, the car also received a complete rebuild of its 2.9-liter C-series inline-six, which breathes through triple SU carburetors and is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The selling dealer's brother acquired this example in 2002 and has driven it approximately 2,400 miles since, showing it occasionally and having it maintained by a Healey specialist. The car is now being offered with a black soft top, tonneau cover, side curtains, and a clean Tennessee title.
Chassis #13886 was originally finished in black over a red interior. Notes from the previous owner's expenditures can be seen in the gallery and show that the body was stripped and repaired before the Colorado Red finish was applied. The 15″ chrome 72 spoke wire wheels wear Dunlop rubber, and rebuilds of the braking and suspension systems were also performed during the restoration.
The previous owner was a Missouri-based collector who purchased this car from a TWA pilot and owned multiple big Healeys and Triumphs. A new soft top was installed during the restoration, and all brightwork was re-plated or replaced. The top, tonneau cover, and side curtains are pictured in the gallery below.
The dash was recovered and a NOS tachometer was installed by the previous owner. Perimeter trim around the cockpit was refinished and anodized, and the interior has been reupholstered in black with red piping. The 2+2 configuration includes two small back seats, and replacement lap-belts have been installed as seen above.
Triple SU carburetors came on the Mark II Healey for homologation purposes, and in conjunction with a hotter cam helped the 2.9-liter inline-six produce 132 horsepower when new. This example has covered just 2,400 miles since it was fully rebuilt and balanced in the 1990s. A thermostatically controlled electric fan has been added for drivability, and the electrical system was also gone through by the previous owner.
The 4-speed manual gearbox is equipped with a Laylock de Normanville overdrive and was rebuilt during the restoration. The underside is further detailed in the gallery below and shows some scrapes from use. Braking is handled by Girling discs up front and drums in the rear.
