Auction description:
This 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 is a four-seat roadster that was acquired by the seller in October 2016 from its previous owner of 45 years. Subsequent work following two decades in storage included a repaint in metallic blue as well as refurbishment of the chassis, brakes, suspension, wiring, fuel system, trim, and more. Power comes from a 2.9-liter inline-six which was reportedly rebuilt and is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. This BT7 is offered in Toronto with receipts from the 2-year project, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and clean Ontario registration in the seller’s name.
Originally Ivory White and partially repainted green under previous ownership, the car was refinished in metallic blue during the recent work. New weatherstripping was installed along with fresh seals for the doors and trunk. Dayton 15″ wire wheels with knock-off hubs wear Vredestein Sprint Classic radial tires all around.
The recent work included chassis refreshment and was carried out with an eye toward Austin-Healey Concours Registry standards according to the seller. Numerous in-progress photos are viewable in the gallery below.
The 2+2 cabin was reupholstered in blue with white piping and features a banjo-style steering wheel on an adjustable column, a heater, and a side-mounted shifter. Smiths gauges include a 5-digit odometer showing 12k indicated miles, with approximately 10 added since completion of the work in October 2018 according the seller.
The 2.9-liter straight-six is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The engine, carburetors, and brake calipers are said to have been rebuilt during the recent work, while other new additions included the exhaust system, wiring harness, fuel tank, and lines.
The BMIHT certificate shows the car was dispatched to Montreal in June 1961 finished in Ivory White with red trim and equipped with a black top, wire wheels, a laminated windscreen, an MPH speedometer, a heater, overdrive, and an adjustable steering column.
