Lot #163925

This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk II is finished in maroon and gray over a gray interior and is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a gray soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, servo-assisted front disc brakes, a top boot, a tonneau cover, heated seats, a CD stereo, detachable side windows, a cabin heater, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. This 3000 Mk II was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024 and is now offered with service records and a clean Pennsylvania title.

The car has been refinished in maroon and gray and features a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, wind wings, driving lamps attached to a badge bar, and detachable side windows. A replacement gray soft top was installed and the sides of the car were repaired in 2012, at which time the inside of the doors, outside cove, and under the hood were refinished. Additional body work on the upper portion of the body was performed in 2016.

The 15″ knock-off wire wheels were mounted with 165HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classics tires in preparation for the sale. Braking is handled by servo-assisted front discs and rear drums. The brake hoses were replaced in 2022.

The bucket seats are trimmed in gray with maroon piping, and matching upholstery extends to the individual rear seats. Heating elements and lap belts have been added for the front occupants. A Pioneer CD stereo and speaker, and a 12V power outlet have also been installed.

The wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel frames Smiths white-dial instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 52k miles.

The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors, which were overhauled in 2014. The cylinder head was resurfaced and the head gasket replaced at that time. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock-de Normanville electric overdrive. The differential pinion seal and the U-joints were replaced in 2022. A stainless-steel exhaust system has been installed.

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows factory equipment and indicates that the car was dispatched on March 20, 1962 in North American specification to Chicago, Illinois.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
