worldwide-auctioneers.com/auctions/car-details/index.php

Auction dscription:
The Corpus Christi Old Car Museum Auction
Lot 110
1960 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BT7 Roadster
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
CHASSIS NO: H-BT7-L/3530

• Desirable 2+2 variant of the beloved “Big Healey”
• Includes side curtains in storage pouch and spare
• Equipped with desirable Laycock electric overdrive
• Nicely presented, preserved and unadulterated

2,912 cc inline six-cylinder engine, twin S.U. semi-downdraft carburetors, 124 HP at 4,750 RPM, four-speed manual gearbox with Laycock overdrive, independent wishbone-and-coil-spring front suspension, ¾-floating rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, Girling front disc and rear drum hydraulic brakes; wheelbase: 2,337 mm (92")

This 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BT7 2+2 is a wonderful example of this highly versatile breed, presented in highly original and unadulterated form. It is quite similar to the Healey purchased new in 1960, while he was a young businessman working in Europe. Well-maintained and stored, featuring a nice overall patina, it shows approximately 63,500 indicated miles and is desirably equipped with Laycock electric overdrive for touring ease. Worthy of simple maintenance and preservation, this British sporting icon would also provide an outstanding basis for full concours-level restoration.

Lot #134329

This 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk I roadster is a running and driving project that spent time in Utah before it was acquired by the seller in August 2021, and it is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is finished in white over color-coordinated leather upholstery and is equipped with dual side mirrors, chrome bumpers, 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, a heater, and PerTronix electronic ignition. Work performed under current ownership included replacing the fuel tank and rebuilding the twin SU carburetors. This BT7 is now offered with spare parts for the transmission, clutch, brakes, and interior, as well as service manuals and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The car was previously finished in red and was repainted in white under previous ownership. Exterior details include a hood scoop, dual side mirrors, twin exhaust outlets, and chrome-plated bumpers with overriders. The soft top fabric is missing, but the top frame remains in place. Paint bubbles are present near the bottom of the left door, the rear bumper overriders are missing, and the chrome plating on the bumpers is deteriorating. A set of side curtains and a soft top header rail are included in the sale.

Silver-finished 15″ wire wheels secured by two-eared knock-offs are mounted with Classic All-Season tires. The car is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes.

The 2+2 cockpit features white leather-upholstered seats over red carpeting. Appointments include a heater, a parcel shelf under the passenger side of the dashboard, and a passenger-side grab handle. Rust penetration is noted on the left side of the trunk floor. The seller states the trunk floor was cleaned and sprayed with rust encapsulator paint under current ownership. The dash pad, front seats, and carpeting are worn. Replacement blue seat upholstery, door panels, and carpeting are included in the sale, according to the seller.

A banjo-style three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles, approximately 10 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. A portion of the turn signal knob is missing from the steering wheel hub.

The 2.9-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors, PerTronix electronic ignition, and a valve cover that has been refinished in green. The carburetors were rebuilt, and the seller states the fuel tank, fuel pump, spark plugs, and ignition wires were replaced under current ownership. Rust is visible on the firewall.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive that can be engaged in third and fourth gears via a dash switch. The seller notes the first gear synchro is bad, and a replacement clutch, transmission seals, bearings, and synchros are included in the sale. Rust is present on the undercarriage.

Service manuals and replacement brake, clutch, interior, and transmission components are included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
