Sellers description:
1960 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark I BT7
Restored From A Solid California Rust-Free Example by Marque Specialist Kurt Tanner
Incredible Condition Inside and Out - 3L Austin I-6 Engine with 4-Speed Overdrive
Eligible for Many Vintage Rallies and Events that Later Healeys Do Not Qualify For
Acquired by Austin-Healey marque specialist Kurt Tanner in 2006 as a rust-free original California car, this 1960 3000 Mark I Roadster entered his restoration shop as an excellent, straight and solid original Old English White over red example. Tanner stripped the car down to its component parts and refinished the body in 2-stage Sikkens paintwork inside, out and underneath to faultless perfection.
The wire wheels are chrome stainless and will never rust and are shod with BF Goodrich blackwall radials. All chrome bumpers and trim items have been restored, replated or replaced and there is no 'mismatch' to any of the chrome i.e. one item next to the other has a different lustre.
The alignment of the bodywork is as good as or better than new. There is no evidence that the underlying car was ever hit, wrecked or rusted prior to restoration.
When we took the car out of our collector client's storage, where it had been sitting since he bought the car from Kurt Tanner, it ran and drove properly but there were some electrical gremlins apparently even missed by Tanner himself - the turnsignals and horn were wired improperly and wiring had chafed in those circuits, the overdrive solenoid was bad and one of the horns did not work. Additionally, Tanner had not restored the original instruments and we sent the speedometer and tachometer up to Nisonger to be redone at a very high cost as they were not working properly. All of the above items have been sorted as well as some other details prior to making the car available for sale.
