This 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk I is finished in white over red leather and powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a replacement four-speed manual gearbox with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. Additional equipment includes a Smiths heater, a front badge bar, bullet-style side mirrors, 15” chrome wire wheels, and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders. The car is said to have undergone a refurbishment in the mid-2000s that included a repaint, a reupholstered interior, and refreshed suspension and brakes. The seller acquired the car in 2015, and subsequent work has included replacing the soft top, windshield, and carpets. This BT7 is now offered with a BMIHT certificate, a workshop manual, service records under current ownership, and a clean Oklahoma title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Ivory White and is said to have been repainted in its factory finish during the aforementioned refurbishment. Additional features include a front badge bar, bullet-style side mirrors, twin exhaust outlets, and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders. A replacement windshield and black convertible soft top were installed under current ownership, and a tonneau cover along with removable side curtains will accompany the car.

Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels wear two-ear knock-off spinners and are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires showing 2013 date codes. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes up front and drums out back. The primary brake cylinder as well as the rear springs and axle seals were replaced under current ownership.

The front and rear seats are said to have been reupholstered in red leather with white piping during previous ownership. Additional appointments include lap belts for front seat occupants as well as a center armrest, a Smiths heater, and a Pioneer head unit. The carpets were replaced under current ownership.

A banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths gauges consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,250-rpm redline, a fuel gauge, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-six features twin SU carburetors and Coopers air cleaners. The engine number plate was reportedly damaged during the refurbishment, and the seller has affixed a reproduction plate with the number listed on the BMIHT certificate. Modifications include the addition of a manual choke and electric auxiliary cooling fan.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement center-shift four-speed manual gearbox with an electrically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit that can be engaged in third and fourth gears via a dash switch. The seller notes an oil drip from the bellhousing.

The BMIHT certificate indicates that the car was completed on September 28, 1959 for the North American export market and shows factory equipment and colors.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
