Sold by Fantasy Junction. www.fantasyjunction.com/cars/40-Austin-Healey-3000%20Mk.%20I-6%20Cyl Comments 1960 Austin Healey 3000 Mk. I s/n HBT7L5850 Old English White with Black Interior and White Piping `I had one just like that when I was in College` is a phase we here quite often when discussing Healeys here at Fantasy Junction. Perhaps more than any other vehicle, the Austin Healey seems to bring back fond memories of the past. The current owner bought this two-owner, California black plate car, 15 years ago in Burlingame, CA. He has competed approximately 6,000 miles during his ownership, and performed a comprehensive restoration between 1993 and 1995. Currently the car has 69,482 miles. While the motor and transmission were not in need of attention, the brakes, fuel and cooling system, clutch, and cosmetics left room for improvement. Having restored several Healeys before, the owner personally disassembled the car, rebuilding the rear wheel cylinders, brake and clutch master cylinders, replaced the radiator hoses, and boiled the radiator and fuel tank. He also installed a new muffler and tail pipe. The rear seats were reupholstered, and the bumpers re-plated. The body was left on the chassis and stripped to bare metal. A very clean and straight body was uncovered which needed very little preparation before being repainted in Old English white, its original color. During the reassembly process the owner lowered the front ride height about 1 inch, mounted a set of 72 spoke Dayton chrome wire wheels and new tires, and had very tasteful aftermarket wing window by Moss Motors fitted. All body gaps are even, with excellent door shut. Receipts for all parts and work outsourced are available. Cosmetically the restoration appears fresh and tidy. The engine compartment is stock and clean and still has the original wiring harness in good condition. The trunk has been restored with new carpet. The repaint is extremely high quality, and looks like it was completed yesterday, with no nicks or scrapes. All the gutters and door jams are clean and unmarked. The chrome and stainless trim, inside and out, is excellent. The windshield shows moderate rock chips, but is not cracked and is free of wiper scars. The interior is in excellent condition. The carpets, seats, doors, and dash show virtually no wear or decay. The hardtop headliner is original and beautiful. A late model JVC cassette player has been added. Mechanically the car is tight and robust. The choke works nicely; the car starts easily, sounds and runs good with good power and no smoke. This car has been converted to negative ground. All switches and gauges are fully operable, including overdrive. With all the hard work competed, this Healey is ready to enjoy and currently needs nothing mechanically. With the car comes the original spare wheel and tire, photo documentation of the restoration, receipts, tonneau, hard top, soft top, side windows, and the original 48 spoke wheels which are unrestored.
