This 1953 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 is a left-hand-drive roadster powered by a 2.7-liter inline-four paired with a three-speed manual gearbox equipped with overdrive. The car underwent a rotisserie refurbishment in the early 2000s that included a repaint, interior refresh, and powertrain rebuild, and it was acquired out of Kentucky by the seller’s father-in-law in 2002. Service in late 2020 is said to have included replacements of the water pump, battery, fuel sender, and axle seals. This BN1 roadster is offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with period manuals, tonneau and car covers, refurbishment photos, and a clean South Carolina title in the current owner’s name that lists the car as a 1954 model.
The body was stripped and placed on a rotisserie during the refurbishment, then refinished in a two-stage application of blue according to the seller. Features include a fold-back windscreen, front and rear bumper overriders, and chrome fender welting. Blemishes noted by the seller include a scratch on the driver-side fender and a dimple on the passenger-side fender.
Painted wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoffs and wear 165/15 Michelin XZX tires said to be in need of replacement. A matching spare equipped with period-style bias-ply tire is located in the trunk. The car comes with a blue soft top and a tonneau cover.
The cockpit was reupholstered in blue leather with white piping under previous ownership, and it features a blue steel dashboard with metal trim as well as coordinating door panels and carpeting. A banjo-style steering wheel is retained, and a toggle switch on the dashboard engages the Laycock de Normanville overdrive.
Smiths instrumentation consists of a speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer indicates 2k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The rebuilt 2,660cc inline-four is equipped with dual SU carburetors and sends power rearward via a rebuilt three-speed manual gearbox featuring overdrive on second and third gears. Service in autumn 2020 is said to have included rebuilding the brake master cylinder, changing the fluids, and inspecting the fuel tank, as well as replacing the water pump, battery, fuel sender, and axle seals. Per the seller, the replaced Dunlop master cylinder is included in the sale.
Engine number 139300. A tag indicating that the car utilizes body number 302 is also pictured. The car is titled using the engine number.
