This 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster is a left-hand-drive example that was first sold in Dusseldorf, Germany and acquired by the seller from the estate of a former Ford engineer in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1998. Power comes from a numbers-matching 2.7-liter inline-four mated to a three-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, and the car was repainted dark blue and white during a Le Mans-style refurbishment that was completed under current ownership. Modifications include a Weslake cast aluminum cylinder head, a stainless steel exhaust header and big-bore stainless steel exhaust system, and an oil cooler with a filter adapter. This 100 BN1 is now offered with spare parts, service records, factory manuals, a BMIHT certificate, and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Old English White, the car was repainted its current shade of dark blue over white during the seller’s ownership. Rust repair was reportedly performed at this time, and all body panels were either repaired or replaced. Refurbishment work is said to have personally been performed by the seller along with Auto Sport of Bloomington, Indiana and SC Parts Group Ltd. of Crawley, England.
Features include a louvered hood with a leather strap, a fold-down windshield, and chrome bumpers with overriders. White-painted 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear Dunlop SP 4 radial tires. A matching spare is included in the sale, along with a mallet and a wooden hub protector.
The interior is trimmed in blue upholstery with matching carpeting and door panels. Features include low-back bucket seats, lap belts, and a padded armrest.
The banjo-spoke steering wheel features a black bakelite rim, and Smiths instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a combination oil pressure and coolant temperature gauge, and a fuel level gauge. Approximately 1,200 miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, though total mileage is unknown.
The 2.7-liter inline-four features larger Le Mans-style twin SU carburetors, a revised intake manifold and airbox, and a modified distributor. Additional modifications include a Weslake cast aluminum cylinder head, a big-bore stainless steel exhaust system with a stainless header, and an oil cooler with a filter adapter.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed A90 manual transmission with overdrive on second and third gears.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows the matching numbers factory engine and transmission numbers, as well as the original color combination and factory equipment.
