From the original austinhealey.com web site. Owner Michael R. Fiske:

"Just bought it, has the LeMans engine, but conversion appears to have been made after the fact (no louvered hood or other outward signs of 100M originally). Car is in rough shape but underbody and frame are solid, so I'm stripping her down and we'll go from there. More later as progress is made."

This 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 was delivered new to the US, and a refurbishment completed in 1999 involved a repaint in black and red along with a complementary interior retrim. A louvered hood was added, the rear bodywork was smoothed, and front disc brakes were installed. Following the seller’s acquisition out of Florida in 2000, the 2,660cc inline-four was rebuilt, a Victoria British competition exhaust system was installed, and the cabin heater, fuel pump, and clutch assembly were replaced. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive as well as driving lights, 15” knock-off wire wheels, and dual SU carburetors. This 100 BN2 is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, tools, a removable soft top frame, spare parts, literature, and a clean title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Healey Blue, and then during the aforementioned refurbishment, a louvered hood was added, the bumpers were removed, and the mounting points for the rear bumper and upper taillights were filled before a repaint in black and red. LED headlights were installed under current ownership, and exterior details include a folding windscreen, a 100M-style grille badge, and driving lights. A removable soft top frame without a cover is included in the sale. The left front fender and right-side door were repaired and refinished in 2014, and the seller notes paint chips, scuffs, and blemishes around the car that can be seen.

Chrome 15” knock-off wire wheels are retained with two-eared spinners, and 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires were mounted in 2016. The front brakes have been converted to discs, while drums provide stopping power out back.

The cabin has been re-trimmed in black, and the low-back bucket seats feature red piping. A battery cutoff switch has been mounted behind the driver’s seat, and the cabin heater was replaced in 2016.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a silver bezel housing Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The speedometer, tachometer, and the five-digit odometer were rebuilt in 2016. The odometer shows 3k miles, which is said to represent the distance added since the engine was rebuilt. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2,660cc inline-four was rebuilt in 2016 by Dave Porter of Albuquerque, New Mexico, using components from Denis Welch Motorsports in the UK. A copy of the service invoice is provided in the gallery. Induction is through dual SU carburetors, and a spin-on oil filter housing has been installed along with a Victoria British competition exhaust system. The electric fuel pump was replaced in 2023, and the battery was replaced in 2024.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with electrically actuated overdrive. The clutch assembly was reportedly replaced in 2016, followed by the shifter linkage in 2020.

The BMIHT certificate indicates that the car was built on January 20, 1956, for the North American export market and lists factory equipment and identification numbers.

Workshop manuals and literature will accompany the car along with awards, tools, and spare parts.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
