This 1956 Austin Healey 100M is a documented (1 of 640) factory-built Austin Healey 100 BN2 Le Mans’ model completed on February 14, 1956. Exported to the USA the car arrived at the Auto Land import car dealership in Buffalo NY. The car was raced from 1956 to 1958 in SCCA and Canadian sports car events by Ruth Luedeke and Irwin Buxbaum ( owners of Auto Land) and Roy Campbell (salesperson at Auto Land). Ruth Luedeke is reported to be the first female member of the SCCA. The retired race car with a spare engine and Brooklands style race windscreen was acquired in Buffalo by an individual who later moved the car to Virginia. In the early 1970s the car changed ownership in Virginia and was later moving to Georgia. In 2010 restoration was started with corrosion repair performed by Cobra Restorers of Kennesaw GA. The restoration stopped due to financial reasons, and the disassembled car was placed in dry storage. The present owner purchased the car, still including the spare engine, in 2023 and completed the restoration in 2025. As acquired by the present owner, the car had all its original 100M components to include the original engine, cold air box, Le Mans plaque, key ignition, carburetors, intake manifolds, high compression pistons, cam shaft, distributor, hood, and sway bar. Additionally, the car retained its Brooklands style race windscreen and body mountings as shown in a historical race photograph. The cockpit surround moldings also retain their matching chassis stampings. The present owner completed the restoration, outsourcing the engine, transmission, carburetors, and distributor rebuilding. Right Way Heritage provided the correct leather seat and other upholstery. The restoration included new suspension components, wheels, tires, windshield, LED lights, gas tank, hydraulics, fuel lines, brake lines, etc. The car is now in its original ivory white and black paint, black interior, black top, and louvred hood as documented by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. The car is list as a factory-built 100M in the 100M Registry, FC-117. The Registry confirms that the car is a factory built 100M "by examination, by the Registry, of six body numbers, key, carburetors and distributor". The car is a fresh restoration with limited new mileage. The car starts easily, drives nicely, has a smooth shifting overdrive transmission and tight steering. At the 2025 Hilton Head Concourse d’Elegance the car received the first Palmetto award in the Coveted Creations Rare English car class.
Included with the car are several early race programs and entry lists, original Brooklands style race wind screen, original owner’s shop and parts manuals, some tools, a correct jack and additional car history information. There is also the largely complete spare engine that has been with the car since its race period.
