This 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 roadster was built on June 27, 1956 and delivered new to a dealer in Germany. The car is said to have been stored from 1968 until 1998 and was refurbished in the style of a 100M in 2008 by BMC Classics of New Smyrna Beach, Florida before being acquired by the current owner in 2011. Finished in light blue and white with a dark blue soft top over a matching interior, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 2,660cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive. Additional features include a 100M-style louvered hood secured with a leather tie-down strap, an adjustable reclining windshield, Lucas front fog lamps, painted knock-off wire wheels, and twin SU carburetors. This BN2 roadster is now being offered on consignment by the selling dealer in Stratford, Connecticut with an owner’s handbook, a knock-off hammer and jack, a BMIHT certificate, a certificate of membership from the Austin-Healey World-Wide 100M Le Mans Registry, and a clean Montana title in the name of the current owner’s LLC.
The exterior was refinished in its current shade of Healey Blue with white lower bodywork during previous ownership. Features include a dark blue soft top and tonneau cover, a 100M-style louvered hood with a leather tie-down strap, an adjustable reclining windshield, Lucas front fog lamps, and a badge bar.
The 15” cream-colored wire wheels feature two-eared knock-off spinners and are wrapped in Nexen SB-802 tires sized 165/80. Stopping power is provided by drums at all four corners. Larger M-specification sway bars and front shocks were installed during the refurbishment.
The left-hand drive cabin features twin bucket seats trimmed in blue leather with matching door panels and carpets lined with black rubber mats. Amenities include an upholstered center arm rest, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, an ash tray, and a passenger-side grab handle.
A black banjo-style steering wheel fronts a painted metal dashboard with polished accents that houses a suite of Smiths instrumentation including a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows just over 43k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2,660cc inline-four was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment and modified with a 100M-style high-lift camshaft, high-compression pistons, a cold air box and intake manifold, and twin SU carburetors. The engine number plate first eight digits match the number noted on the British Motor Industry Heritage
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with an electronically-actuated overdrive that can be engaged with a dash-mounted switch in the top two gears. The selling dealer reports a noise from the transmission while in first gear.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists a build date of June 27, 1956 and shows the original colors, serial numbers, and equipment.
