Car was at auction 10/18

Auction description:
Lot number 58
Sale Price £37,500
Make & Model Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII BJ8 Phase 2
Registration HON 394D
Year 1965
Colour Old English White
Engine Size 2,912 cc
Chassis No. H-BJ8-L/34116
Engine No. 29K RU/H 10354
V5C; MOT July 2018; 10+ old MOTs; Heritage Certificate; bills

This 1965-built Phase 2 was one of the majority of big Healeys that first made its way to the US. As is often the case with American imports, there are no records of its early history other than the Maryland Certificate of Title that accompanies the car.

A Heritage Certificate shows that it was originally built between the 30th November and 6th December 1965 and was despatched on 15th December bound for Philledelphia. It was fitted with wire wheels, an overdrive, heater, adjustable steering column and a tonneau cover.

It made its way back to Blighty in 1989 and was sold for £12,160, arriving at Autech Classic restorations to be converted to RHD shortly after.

Bills on file show a full engine rebuild in February 1999, the car having covered around 15,000 miles since then according to the 10 MOTs on file.

Arriving in the hands of the vendor in 2010, it fulfilled a long-held dream of owning one of these classic British bruisers and after a few years of regular use, his attentions have been drawn elsewhere so now it's your turn.

Complete with a Healey-shaped car cover and an MOT until July 2018 with no advisories, this fine looking ultimate-spec Healey 3000 looks a mighty tempting proposition.

The DVLA have issued a new revised V5 Registration Certificate for this BJ8 Healey HON 394D now recording its correct "as built" Chassis number (VIN) as HBJ8L35680.

Its previous allocated incorrect VIN of HBJ8L34116 is now voided.

It was actually built in March 1966 and dispatched to Philadelphia USA in April 1966.

The engine number given is correct.

This is not the correct chassis number for the vehicle HON394D.
The correct chassis number is HBJ8L35680 ( stamped on chassis).
Evidence was accepted by DVLA and a revised ( corrected ) V5 issued for HON 394D showing the correct original chasisis number and a new correct vin plate is now attached to the bulkhead.
A Heritage certificate for 35680 shows HON394D as having all matching numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
