    Lot #152938

This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired by the current owner in 2006, and it has reportedly been stored for an extended period to time since. Recommissioning work in preparation for the sale consisted of changing fluids, replacing the fuel pump, brake hoses, front calipers and pads, rear shoes and wheel cylinders, and the master cylinder, and rebuilding the twin SU carburetors on the 2.9-liter inline-six. The car is finished in Healey Blue over blue leather and also has a blue soft top, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, front disc brakes, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and front bucket seats. This 3000 Mk III is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with the owner’s manual, service records, and a Washington title.

The car is finished in Healey Blue (BU2) and features a replacement folding blue soft top, a top boot, a tonneau cover, a hood scoop, bright trim, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Auxiliary lights and a badge bar have been installed.

The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 175R15 Michelin tires. In preparation for the sale the brake hoses, front calipers and pads, rear shoes and wheel cylinders, and master cylinder were replaced. The parking brake does not work and the right-side front sway bar mount requires repairs.

The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats trimmed in blue leather accented by wood trim. The heater fan is inoperative.

The Moto-Lita steering wheel frames Smiths black-dial instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles.

The 2.9-liter inline-six has dual SU HD8 carburetors that were rebuilt in preparation for the sale. Fluids were also changed, and the fuel pump and filter were replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock-de Normanville electric overdrive.

A pair of Diamond Audio speakers installed in body-color enclosures are included in the sale, along with tools, service records, and manufacturer’s literature.

The title carries a Classic brand.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
