The History and Paperwork
Vendor advises that this car was first registered in 1967
BMIHT certificate shows it was built in April 1966 and despatched in May
First registered in Philadelphia, USA
Factory supplied with a range of options shown in photos including heater and overdrive
Mk3 cars were the final and most powerful evolution of the 3000
Vendor reports that the car is a matching numbers car
Restored in Poland which was completed in 2023
Little use since the work was completed
The Condition
Factory-correct black over red colour scheme recently extensively restored
Paintwork is in very good order with only light stone chips to front to note
Bodywork well kept with very good panel fit, particularly across doors
Fitted with a black vinyl roof which is well kept with clear screens
Red tonneau cover
Very good chromework across car being bright and seemingly undamaged
Chrome 15in wire wheels in untarnished condition with Vredestein classic tyres fitted
Matching spare wheel also fitted with Vredestein tyre
Underside presents well with evidence of restoration and protective undersealing
Red carpets through cabin and boot, all appearing recently trimmed and fitted
Attractive red leather interior with 2+2 seating layout showing no obvious wear
Bucket seats and retrimmed door cards appear to be to factory correct specification
Plush veneer dashboard with chrome-rimmed dials and fittings in very good condition
The scope and quality of this car’s restoration is obvious from the photographs. Across the underside, exterior and interior the work has been extensive, refitting the car to the factory-correct black over red colour scheme. It is very smart indeed.
The level of work begins with the panel fit, most noticeably on the doors, which are flush and show consistent panel gaps. Inside the retrimmed burgundy leather interior is finished to a high standard, including the bucket seats and door cards which appear to be to factory-correct details.
The bright chromework accents what is an undeniably pretty and well presented car.
The Mechanics
Later 150bhp Mk3 BJ8 3litre straight six engine
Twin SU carburettors with chromed trim
Chromed engine cover neatly accents the well kept engine bay
4spd manual gearbox with factory-fitted optional overdrive
Many new suspension components visible in photographs
We are advised of minor oil leaks, not untypical of a car of this age
The overdrive is not currently working along with the speedometer not working correctly
The BMIHT certificate and vendor indicate that this is a genuine matching numbers car that retains its desirable 4spd overdrive gearbox. These later cars got a useful pwoer hike to 150bhp, giving them the performance to match the svelte looks.
The extensive restoration included the mechanicals and running gear, the photographs showing an array of new suspension components and a well organised and presented engine bay. This includes chrome engine cover and SU carburettors.
