This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was originally dispatched to Portland and underwent a multi-year refurbishment that was completed in 2011. The car is finished in British Racing Green with a black interior and soft top, and power comes from a numbers-matching 2.9-liter inline-six backed by a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Features include a period radio, an adjustable steering column, a chrome luggage rack, and a modern heater. The seller acquired the car in September 2013, and service performed during his ownership included rebuilding the transmission and installing a new head gasket, a mild camshaft, and a six-blade engine fan. This BJ8 is now offered in Florida with refurbishment and service records beginning in 2005, a BMIHT certificate, a tool roll and jack, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC.
Originally delivered in Colorado Red, the car was repainted its current shade of British Racing Green under previous ownership. Chrome bumpers are equipped with overriders, and a luggage rack is fitted on the rear decklid. Paint bubbling around the antenna is shown in the gallery below, along with additional photos of the black soft top.
Factory 15″ wire wheels feature knock-off spinners and wear Nankang CX668 tires. New brake lines were fitted in December 2014, and new wheel hubs were also installed under the seller’s ownership.
The cockpit is trimmed in black upholstery with burled wood dashboard panels. Interior features include a factory Bakelite steering wheel, a wooden shift knob, a period radio, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. The factory-optional heater has been replaced with a modern unit under the seller’s ownership. Just over 58k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 500 of which were added by the seller.
The 2.9-liter C-series inline-six was factory-rated at 150 horsepower and 158 lb-ft of torque when new. An engine rebuild was performed under previous ownership by Superior Engine & Machine of Kimball, Michigan in March 2006. The head gasket was replaced under the seller’s ownership, and a mild camshaft, an electronic distributor, and a six-blade engine fan were also installed. More recent work in 2019 included rebuilding the twin SU carburetors and performing a tune-up and oil change.
Engine stamping 29K-RU-H/12761 matches the number listed on the BMIHT certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with electronic overdrive. The transmission was rebuilt and a new clutch installed by Charlie’s British Cars, Inc. of Tampa, Florida in February 2014. Additional underside photos are viewable in the gallery.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows a build date between June and September 1966 and lists the original colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers, as well as initial delivery to Portland.

This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was completed on September 15, 1966 and initially distributed to Portland, Oregon. The car was refurbished under prior ownership between 2005 and 2011 and was acquired by the seller following an auction on BaT in March 2020. It has been refinished in dark green over a black interior, and power comes from a 2.9-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Features include a black soft top, dual SU carburetors, a Nisonger AM/FM radio, an adjustable steering column, chrome luggage rack, heater, and knock-off wire wheels. This BJ8 is now offered with a tool roll and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Colorado Red, the car was repainted dark green under previous ownership. Exterior details include a black soft top and boot cover, chrome bumpers with overriders, and a luggage rack fitted to the rear decklid. Areas of paint bubbling are present around the antenna.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by knock-off spinners and mounted with 165/80 Nankang CX668 tires. A matching spare is found in the trunk. Braking is via front discs and rear drums. The brake booster, master cylinder, lines, and wheel hubs were replaced in 2014.
The cockpit houses seats trimmed in black upholstery with white piping, as well as color-keyed door panels and carpets. Features include a Nisonger AM/FM radio, a wood shift knob, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. The factory-optional heater was replaced with a modern unit under previous ownership.
A banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of burled wood dash panels housing Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary displays. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 59k miles, around 300 of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter inline-six was rebuilt in March 2006, while the four-speed manual transmission was rebuilt and fitted with a replacement clutch by Charlie’s British Cars of Tampa, Florida in February 2014. The head gasket was replaced in 2014, at which time a mild camshaft, modified cam followers, racing chain tensioners, and a competition timing chain were installed. An electronic distributor and six-blade cooling fan were also added the following month. The dual SU carburetors were rebuilt in 2018.
Engine stamping is 29K-RU-H/12761.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows a build date between June and September 1966 and lists the original colors, equipment, and powertrain numbers, as well as initial delivery to Portland.
