www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm

Auction description:
Arizona
Thursday, January 20, 2011
1962 Austin-Healey 3000 MK II BT7 Roadster
LOT: 147
Chassis No. HBT7L17116
Offered Without Reserve

- A desirable Mark II BT7, center shift, tri-carburetor example
- Matching numbers
- Total nut and bolt restoration by Tom and Randee Rocke of Healey Lane
- Complete with one-year, bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage

This 1962 Austin Healey 3000 Mk II BT7 is one of just 1,941 cars made with the desirable center-shift transmission and triple SU carburetors. It also marks the final production year of the true “Big Healey” roadsters, prior to the BJ7 with its roll-up windows. It has been treated to a total nut-and-bolt, body-off restoration completed by the award-winning marque specialists Tom and Randee Rocke at Riverside, California’s Healey Lane. The body panels and chassis were shot-blasted to bare metal before the new DuPont clear/base coat Gun Metal Gray finish was applied. A complete new interior was fitted in St. James Red, including the seats, panels and wool carpeting. The car is complete with a new trunk kit, new side curtains, a black convertible top and a black tonneau cover.

All new parts were used when rebuilding the engine, transmission and overdrive, and the car’s ancillary systems received the same treatment as well. An all-new cloth wiring harness was installed, along with new or rebuilt electrical components. A completely new fuel system, including a new tank and lines, feeds three newly rebuilt 1.5-inch SU HS4 carburetors. The exhaust was jet-coated and fitted to a new exhaust system, and all new brake lines, as well as a new master cylinder, front disc brakes and jet-coated rear brake drums, were fitted. A new front and rear suspension was also installed, plus Dunlop chrome wire wheels and Roadspeed tires.

No expense was spared in this outstanding restoration, and most or all the parts used in the process were purchased new from England. Complete photographic documentation of the restoration accompanies the sale of the car, as well as a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, which confirms the car to be a matching numbers example. And as if its thrilling, open-air driving experience isn’t enough, Healey Lane proudly stands behind this great BT7 with a one-year, bumper-to-bumper warranty on it.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
