Lot #137423

This 1961 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk I was acquired by the current owner’s family in the mid-1980s in Washington and was inherited by the current owner in 2023. It is finished in black over red leather and powered by 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes a black vinyl soft top, fender-mounted side mirrors, a banjo-style steering wheel, a luggage rack, and polished 15” knock-off wire wheels. This 3000 is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a driver’s handbook, two keys, side curtains, a tonneau cover, and a clean Washington title.

The car was repainted its current shade of black around 2017 and is equipped with a rear luggage rack, fender-mounted mirrors, bumper overriders, a replacement black soft top, sliding plexiglass side windows, and removable side curtains. A tonneau cover accompanies the vehicle. Noted blemishes include paint bubbles, rust around the rockers, scratches, and a dent in the radiator core support.

Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels are wrapped in 165/80 Nankang CX-668 tires, and a spare is housed in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The brake master cylinder was replaced in 2022.

The seats have been re-trimmed in red leather with black piping, and matching upholstery extends to the center armrest. Additional equipment includes black Austin-Healey-branded floor mats, a passenger-side dash grab handle, lap belts, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a cabin heater.

A banjo-style steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 40k miles.

The 2.9-liter inline-six is equipped with dual SU carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Replacement clutch cylinders were installed in 2017 and the battery was replaced in 2023.

Chassis number HBT7L7955 and the sequence is listed as the VIN on the title prepended with a “61.”

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
